About Me

My name is Kyle Florence, I'm 21 years old and currently split my time between my parents house in St. George, Utah and San Diego State University (USA). I grew up in a rural town in Oregon where I was often times bored out of my mind. This led me to an interest in computers and eventually the web. I began developing for the web in 2001 and have since self-taught myself XHTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL and some Java/Javascript. All the work I do is hand-coded in ConTEXT, a text editing program with a built in syntax highlighter. I refuse to use programs like Dreamweaver that pump out ugly, non-compliant code at the click of a button. As for graphics, I prefer Adobe Photoshop for web graphics, while I also use Illustrator and InDesign depending on what type of project I'm tackling.

Aside from development on the computer, I enjoy playing games (Half-Life 2, Day of Defeat, The Godfather, Guild Wars), watching movies, listening to music and keeping in touch with friends. When I'm not on the computer I enjoy various outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking, rollerblading and walking. I love to take photographs, both with my manual Olympus OM-10 and my Digital Canon Powershot SD10. When I can, I like to get away from home as much as possible. Although I haven't really been out of the country yet, I've explored a vast amount of the U.S. I really enjoy being in the mountains and I don't mind the occassional thunderstorm either.

About This Site

Kflorence.com was originally founded in 2002 as "Siron.org" (based on my online alias "Siron"). Since then it has gone through 5 versions (this being the 6th), numerous name changes and massive backend overhauls. I am proud to say that this site is now fully compliant with w3 standards (which includes CSS and XHTML 1.0 Strict) and implements a table-less and highly functional layout. Along with my online portfolio, this site serves as an online hub of everything I create; whether it be web development or photography, it can be found here. It is also a place for me to expirement and learn new languages and methods. At any given time I will probably have numerous projects going on.
